As part of its first major VR project, Voxel World, the Voxel Group has begun to make the leap from building games for smartphones to building games with the Oculus Rift.
This week, the company announced the launch of its new project, a VR-centric virtual reality studio called The Lazarus Project.
The Lazarus project is currently in the early stages of development, but Voxel says it is set to launch sometime next year.
The project, which Voxel describes as “a new generation of VR experiences for mobile platforms,” will use its own Unreal Engine and will be built on Unreal Engine 4.
Voxel has also partnered with Oculus to help develop the project.
The studio has released a demo of its virtual reality experiences to developers to help them get up and running.
To help players get a head start on the project, the studio will offer several VR titles in its first months of existence, including a VR arcade game and a VR survival game.
Voxell says the Lazarus project will also have a number of “virtual reality experiences” for the Oculus ecosystem, but those are not currently in development.
The Lazarus project has two main aims: to help VR developers get started with the Unreal Engine, and to create a new generation in the VR community of VR developers.
Voxels VR team has already developed VR-focused games for the PlayStation VR, and it will be looking to expand the scope of its portfolio of VR-specific titles.
To that end, the Lazarus team is focusing on VR content that it believes can help VR companies get more out of Unreal Engine.
“The Lazarus Project will focus on a variety of VR content to build VR experiences that people will want to play and create with the new VR platform,” Voxel said in a statement.
“The Lazarus Team is already working with some of the top VR developers in the world, and they are working to build experiences for the new Oculus Rift,” Voxels team added.
“We will be launching these VR experiences with the launch this year of Oculus Rift and its launch of the Oculus Home VR device.”
