The Australian dollar has slumped to its lowest level in three years.
The dollar index has dropped to 54.10 against the US dollar, down 0.6 per cent.
The Australian currency fell 0.1 per cent against the greenback in Hong Kong and 0.3 per cent in Singapore.
But the biggest drop was in the Australian manufacturing sector.
The index fell to 54 points, or 0.7 per cent, from 54.19 points, which was a drop of 0.8 per cent on the year.
The manufacturing sector, which employs about 80,000 people, has been hit hardest by the decline.
